Military fans may be surprised to learn the Sherwoods’ quarters are filled with Terry Serpico’s family photos. Serpico, who plays the no-nonsense Maj. Frank Sherwood, is an Army brat. His father — also named Frank — is a retired colonel. When Serpico wore dress blues for the first time, he not only looked like his father, but felt like his father.

“In so many ways I’m playing my dad,” he said. “The irony is so thick.”

Much like his character, his dad was a stickler for protocol and precision and only gained a sense of humor after he retired, according to Serpico.

Fortunately, Dad is a fan of the show.

“Once you scrape away the fluff, it really is true to life,” he told his son. “It’s a huge compliment.”

On the show, Maj. Sherwood is married to Denise (Catherine Bell). Here’s something else that may surprise viewers: “The love Frank has for Denise made me fall in love with my wife even more,” Serpico said.

Sweet and Caring Pfc. Trevor LeBlanc

Having once worn his hair down to his shoulders, Drew Fuller likes the short look. It’s a good thing, considering Army privates generally wear their hair in buzz cuts.

Fuller is new to the Army, and so is the character he plays, the young Pfc. Trevor LeBlanc, husband to fan-favorite Roxy (Sally Pressman). Since Pfc. LeBlanc is a newly minted soldier, Fuller , “I’m allowed to show emotion. I’m still a kid, still innocent. He hasn’t even been to war yet.”

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Fuller hasn’t been around the military much. A friend served as an Army Ranger and showed him how to march, salute and break in his boots.

“I want to make sure I’m doing the best I can,” he said.

He could never be a real soldier, he said, but he has a great respect for those in uniform.

“The show has really opened up my eyes a lot to what’s going on in the Middle East and back on the homefront,” he said.
